A brother and sister who spent their entire lives under occupation have been successfully returned to the controlled territory of Ukraine. This return was part of the initiative by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Bring Kids Back UA. This was reported by the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, via Telegram, as noted by UNN.
Details
The hometown of the children, Inna and Anton, fell under occupation back in 2014. They were raised by their grandmother after their father was killed and their mother lost parental rights. Following the onset of the full-scale invasion, the grandmother decided that they needed to leave their hometown, which was becoming increasingly dangerous. Due to the inability to reach the territory controlled by Ukraine immediately, the family went to relatives in Russia. However, they continued to seek a way back to their homeland, where their uncle was waiting for the children.
"Today the children are finally home, in their native country. I am grateful to the specialists from the Ukrainian Network for Children's Rights for organizing this rescue mission," the note states.
