In the Kursk region (Russia), fighters from the 47th Brigade "Magura," along with adjacent units, repelled a massive enemy assault involving tanks adorned with red flags.
"A column of over a dozen tanks and about a company of enemies was thrown into the assault by the 'elite' Russian 155 Marine Brigade with 'victory flags.' However, instead of victory, it resulted in the traditional 'darkness,'” the report states.
Moreover, the Russian tanks advanced through a minefield while being continuously shelled by Ukrainian drones. Russian officials claimed that the incident occurred near Nikolskoye.
"The 155 column under red flags, like at a parade, went head-on into a swarm of Ukrainian drones along a mined road! Don't rub your eyes; we wrote it correctly — indeed under the red Victory flags and precisely along a mined road,” the message from a Russian Telegram channel reads.
According to the Russians, the order to launch the assault was given by Gudkov, Tatarchenko, and Solodchuk, two of whom are allegedly Ukrainians.
"These are not planning errors; this is betrayal and murder!" the Russians added.
"While the Russians are actively pressing along that flank. In some areas, they have successes, like in Sverdlikovo, while in others, they are getting hit hard," said Roman Pogorily.
"Unfortunately for Putin, he managed to stretch this Great Patriotic War narrative onto the current conflict. Ideologically and in meaning, he has convinced most Russians that this is the Great Patriotic War. Therefore, they frequently use Soviet symbols and believe they are fighting against fascism, considering us to be fascists and Bandera supporters, while they are fighting for a bright future, including for their own country," explained Oleg Zhdanov.
"They compare us to the Germans, claiming that grandfathers fought against fascists in the Soviet Union, and now we are fighting," noted Ivan Stupak.
While the tank assault through a minefield under drone strikes is essentially suicide, the 'victory madness' insists that "that's how grandfathers fought," emphasized military expert Zhdanov. He pointed out that this is "ideological pumping" that clouds reasoning, leading Russians to emulate their "grandfathers." For the enemy, the slogan is "to die for the Motherland."
According to Stupak, the enemy often employs such tactics, claiming that it is the only way they can make progress.
"They admit this themselves. Because otherwise, they say, it doesn’t work. This approach comes from the Soviet Union, where they mass-send troops into assaults, and it yields results. The enemy simply cannot shoot them all. They claim they rely on numbers rather than skill. This is essentially a brazen, cynical tactic — just a sort of BDSM for them," stated the analyst.
Pogorily noted that the 155 Marine Brigade of Russia frequently uses Soviet symbolism. The occupiers from this brigade have committed crimes against Ukrainian servicemen, executing them and decapitating them. Additionally, the 155 Brigade, according to the analyst, is constantly "getting hammered" everywhere.
"In particular, it has been wiped out several times in Ugledar thanks to the efforts of the 72 Brigade," noted the co-founder of DeepState.
Zhdanov reported that the 155 Brigade is detrimental to Ukrainians. These occupiers participated in "atrocities" on Ukrainian territory — shootings, cruel treatment of prisoners, and their executions. Therefore, on the frontline, Defense Forces have repeatedly tried to inflict as many losses as possible on the 155 Brigade.
Ivan Stupak stated that only the name remains of the 155 Brigade, as it has been "ground down." He noted that this brigade is always used by the occupiers to "plug holes" in offensive operations, but now it is merely a "brand."
When asked if the development of drones indicates that the time of tanks has passed, Oleg Zhdanov replied that it has not, as "for every poison, there is an antidote." Today, it seems that the time of tanks has indeed passed, but he is convinced that means to combat UAVs and protect tanks will still be found.
"After World War II, tanks were the primary firepower of infantry. In close combat, they provided essential fire support. Then anti-tank weapons were developed. Once these systems gained significant use and distribution, protective equipment was added to tanks. Reactive armor and radar systems were introduced to divert guided munitions away from tanks. The same will happen here," the expert believes.
In his opinion, drones currently dominate, but in a year or two, tanks will have corresponding protections that will cover the operational range of FPV drones.
Zhdanov stated that no one will abandon a 120 or 115mm gun as fire support, as it can effectively eliminate entire enemy positions during assaults. Additionally, tanks are used to transport infantry to deployment lines in combat order.
Stupak confirms that the time of tanks has not passed, despite the fact that a drone costing $1,000 can destroy a tank worth several million. He is convinced that heavy equipment is necessary, and after the war, extensive research will be conducted on the necessity of tanks, what can be changed, and how to reduce costs. He added that such equipment is also essential for transporting and covering personnel on the battlefield.
Recall that on February 8, in the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces repelled a massive assault by Russian troops that lasted 16 hours. In particular, 140 North Korean soldiers were eliminated.
On February 12, Senior Officer of the Communications Division of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, Petr Gaidashchuk, stated that the Kursk region is a crucial front direction for Russia. Thus, the enemy is trying to assault the positions of the Defense Forces in small groups but is facing failure and substantial losses.
