The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue their offensive in the Donetsk region. According to DeepState, the adversary has made gains in eight populated areas.
Specifically, the occupiers have advanced in Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and several villages in the Pokrovsk district — in Yantarne, Novovasyliivka, near Yelizavetivka, Zelenyi, Zvyrovo, and Kotlyno.
"The hottest areas today are around Kurakhove, Velyki Novoselky, and, of course, Pokrovsk. At the same time, a very critical situation is developing in the Toretsk area, and it will increasingly become a topic of discussion because we are losing it," said Roman Pohorilyi.
According to him, the adversary is consolidating in various parts of the city, with RF Armed Forces occupying the center and advancing in the western and northern parts. However, the situation in the city is chaotic and somewhat unique, as it has never been the case that literally no one knows where and who is located. Positions can be in neighboring houses — one occupied by Defense Forces, and the other by RF Armed Forces.
"This greatly complicates the city's defense process, as everything is mixed up, and situational awareness is minimal. The most active operations involve drone strikes against the enemy, with occasional clean-ups by special units, but this does not significantly affect the overall situation. There is a lot of infantry that seeps into dense urban areas, which constantly needs to be sought out and eliminated. Due to their numbers and constant pressure, they are infiltrating the city," the analyst explained.
He noted that Chasiv Yar is also quite active, and unfortunately, there will be changes on the map. Specifically, the latest updates show significant advances by the Russians in these cities.
"The Lyman area is also active, particularly around Ivanivka, which the enemy has occupied and is trying to extend its success from the opposite side of the Defense Forces' units on the Zherebets River. They have had success there and are actively developing it. There are problems in the Dvurechna area, where they cannot stabilize the situation at the foothold, and, of course, in Kurshchyna, where active fighting continues," noted Pohorilyi.
He mentioned that the enemy is clearing Kurakhove, and in the Dachne area — a small pocket, the enemy is advancing. However, in Pokrovsk, the adversary will try to exert pressure through the western outskirts.
On January 12, DeepState analysts reported that within ten days, the occupiers have been advancing on the southern flank of the Pokrovsk direction. Thus, the enemy has made progress and is located less than seven kilometers from the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Roman Pohorilyi specified that fighting continues in the Pokrovsk area. The adversary is pushing along the entire line of contact; however, the most activity is observed around the settlements of Shevchenko and Volkovo, with the enemy pressing towards Kotlyno. As a result, this demonstrates the Russians' desire to encircle the city and hunt for logistics, primarily using FPV drones.
Moreover, resource accumulation is currently being recorded in the Mirnograd area. However, according to the co-founder of DeepState, only time will tell how the RF Armed Forces will utilize this.
When asked if the RF Armed Forces could take Pokrovsk, Stupak noted that it is difficult to predict, as many factors influence this — ranging from resources, support, ammunition, and equipment on the Ukrainian side, to what the enemy will have.
"All of this collectively has an impact. Indeed, it may happen that the RF Armed Forces will break their teeth on Pokrovsk. But we have seen numerous examples of cities being captured, regardless of the circumstances. For the Russians, the cost is merely numbers on paper. How many people they have lost — it means nothing to them when the goal is at stake," explained Ivan Stupak.
He stated that currently, a certain slowdown in the enemy's advance is being observed in the Pokrovsk area. However, on one hand, there is information that there is enemy advancement, and the number of clashes is high; yet, on the other hand, there are no significant advances visible on the map.
"It seems that there is a certain slowdown. What is it related to? Perhaps preparation," noted the analyst.
In his opinion, the personnel of the RF Armed Forces may have received orders to advance as much as they can, and then supposedly reinforcements in the form of personnel and equipment will arrive. It is also possible that the occupiers are running out of steam.
"Indeed, it has been 15 months in non-stop mode. I do not know who can afford such a thing, only the Russian Federation," he concluded.
Recall that on January 10, the head of the Pokrovsk District State Administration, Serhiy Dobriak, reported that the RF Armed Forces were located just a few kilometers from the city. According to him, the security situation is deteriorating day by day.
On January 9, the commander of the tactical group within the active operations unit of the GUR MO of Ukraine, "Artan," Mykhailo, with the call sign "Phantom," reported that the enemy had intensified in several directions. He noted that the enemy had not been able to achieve their goals, primarily thanks to Ukrainian fighters.
