The Assassination of Putin: What if Tucker Carlson's fantasies became reality?

American journalist Tucker Carlson believes that the administration of former President Joe Biden had intentions to assassinate Putin. Experts surveyed by Focus expressed skepticism about this claim but decided to speculate on how the world might change and, most importantly, what it would mean for Ukraine if the Russian president were to die.
Убийство Путина: как бы выглядела реальность, если бы идеи Такера Карлсона стали правдой?

American journalist Tucker Carlson is convinced that the administration of former US President Joe Biden planned an assassination of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to him, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken did everything possible to escalate the war between the US and Russia.

"Antony Blinken strongly advocated for the ideas of a real war, such as through the assassination of Putin. What the Biden administration was doing — they were trying to kill Putin," Tucker Carlson stated.

However, the journalist did not provide any specific evidence or details regarding the potential organization of an assassination attempt on Putin.

If the US had killed Putin: how would Russia and the world change?

Tucker Carlson's words are music to the ears of at least 95% of Ukrainians, even those with Christian beliefs, believes political scientist Oleg Posternak. This is because Putin is seen as directly responsible for the war crimes committed by Russia during the conflict.

Putin's personal role in the war is significant; in particular, 80% of this war is his obsession, a personal adventure, while the physical elimination of the Russian president could have curtailed the so-called "special military operation," created fragmentation among the Russian elite, and led to inter-clan struggles within their ranks, according to the political scientist.

In his opinion, the next leader of Russia would be more dependent on the elite than Putin is now, as he has surrounded himself with a very narrow circle of loyal officials and relatives. Moreover, the President of Russia has stopped listening to the opinions of those who were once important and interesting to him.

"He has no understanding that state policy should depend on some collective intellectual discussion. On the contrary, that no longer exists in Russia. Therefore, the next president would definitely be more dependent on the elite, who would intuitively sense the collapse the Russian economy has encountered. And, of course, this would influence the nature of his policies," the political scientist noted.

Former SBU employee and military analyst Ivan Stupak is convinced that the US could not plan Putin's assassination. However, if we were to imagine such a scenario, the consequences could vary. Specifically, depending on the cause of death. If it were natural — that’s one scenario; if violent — then it’s another.

According to him, these individuals would accelerate the war because their leader had been killed and would seek to take revenge on the "bad Americans."

However, the scenario of Putin's natural death is considered the best for Ukraine, as it could provoke conflicts within Russia. Expert Stupak explains that currently, Putin acts as the one holding the system together in Russia and plays the role of a balancer. In the event of his death, different influence groups would begin to quarrel.

The security forces might claim that they are the "wall of the nation" and therefore should take on a leading role. At the same time, the technocrats, represented by officials, could argue that the entire system relies on their knowledge and managerial skills.

Another group — the oligarchs — might assert that their money is what sustains the state machinery, funding both the security forces and the technocrats, and therefore they deserve a leading role.

Moreover, representatives of the clergy could join the struggle for power, insisting that everything in the state relies on the "sacred," and they should be the main authority.

"I think this would be the best scenario for us, to see them squabbling among themselves," the analyst stated.

Would a war between the US and Russia start due to Putin's assassination?

According to Oleg Posternak, if Washington killed Putin, it would hardly lead to a war between the US and Russia.

"No, unlikely, if this assassination were carried out to its logical conclusion. I think many in Russia would very much want that scenario to unfold — both in the Russian political environment and in Russian business," he explained, adding that for a portion of Russian citizens, Putin represents a "risk, catastrophe, economic collapse."

Conversely, Stupak believes that the assassination of Putin by the Americans would certainly lead to war between the US and Russia.

"No matter how much of a dictator or murderer Putin may be, in the eyes of many countries, he is a ruler," he emphasized.

Some countries provide financial support to Russia, others simply believe in Putin, and some harbor hatred, Stupak continues, but this act would be used against the US. In particular, China or India could take this stance. This could significantly unite opponents of the Western world, who might claim that the West stands by its values yet shamelessly killed the leader of another state.

"This would unite a small number of countries against the United States. And that would indeed be detrimental," the military analyst concluded.

Recall that at the end of January, US President Donald Trump emotionally urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. He stated that he supposedly has no intention of harming Russia, loves the Russian people, and has always had good relations with Putin.

At that time, Trump also stated that the continuation of military actions in Ukraine is destroying Russia, causing significant economic and human losses. In the opinion of the US president, Putin should reach an agreement.
