In the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, citizens took to the streets in protest following a shooting that resulted in 12 fatalities: they accuse the authorities of inaction and demand the resignation of police and interior ministry leaders. This was reported by Reuters, as noted by UNN.

Details

Many Montenegrins expressed their outrage over what they perceive as the slow reform of the understaffed and under-resourced police, as well as bureaucratic and political disputes within the government.

The protesters initially stood in silence to honor the victims of the shooting, then hurled insults at the police, who had formed a cordon around the government building in the city center. Protesters held signs reading "Your system is rotten" and "Your hands are stained with blood." They also attached roses with black ribbons to the fence as a sign of mourning.

The demonstrators are calling for the resignation of high-ranking officials, including Interior Minister Danijel Saranović and Police Director Lazar Šćepanović. On Thursday, Šćepanović stated that the police response to the shooting was delayed due to inaccurate information that directed the first patrol to the wrong location.

Recall

In the town of Cetinje in Montenegro, a mass shooting occurred, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including two children. The suspect, Aco Martinović, took his own life after being surrounded by the police.
