Details
On January 27, fighting continued on the "Ukrainian foothold" in the Kursk region, but no confirmed changes were reported along the front line.
On January 27, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of the village of Nikolaevo-Daryino (to the northwest of Sudzha). However, ISW believes that Russian troops likely took control of this settlement as early as January 21.
Fighting continued near Kosytsia (north of Sudzha), and the Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedly counterattacked near Nikolaevo-Daryino on January 26 and 27.
9Kharkiv Region
It was noted that on January 27, Russian occupiers continued their attacks in the Kharkiv region near Lyptsy and Volchansk, but made no gains. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported on January 27 that near Volchansk, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy assault involving 10 units of Russian equipment and an unspecified number of infantry. Russian invaders were advancing in the Kupiansk direction around Petropavlivka, near Pyschany, Stepna Novoselivka, and Hlushkovka on January 26 and 27, but made no progress.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War, on January 27, Russian bloggers refuted the Russian Ministry of Defense's statement from January 20 about the capture of Novoegorivka, asserting that Russian troops are still located 1.5 km from the settlement, and there has been no movement in the area for some time.
ISW noted that Russian war correspondents reported that the false statements from the Russian Ministry of Defense about the "capture" of the village negatively impact the current offensive operations of Putin's troops in the region.
As analysts from the Institute write, Russian bloggers previously complained that Russian authorities lied about the capture of Bilohorivka (northeast of Siversk), and the Russian military command reportedly arrested and dismissed several commanders responsible for the Bilohorivka sector in November 2024.
On January 26 and 27, Russian occupiers conducted offensive operations in the areas of Ternov, Kolodyaziv, and Yampolivka towards Zelena Dolyna, in the area of Zarechny and Torske.

Neither Ukrainian nor Russian sources reported any offensive operations by Russian troops in the Siversk direction on January 27.

Trehubov assessed that the personnel of the Russian invaders operating in the Pokrovsk direction may be reduced due to attempts to flank Pokrovsk instead of conducting a frontal assault on the settlement. He also noted that the fighting near Pokrovsk is not as intense as in Toretsk, but emphasized that the Pokrovsk direction is the most active area on the front line.
A representative of the Ukrainian brigade operating in the Pokrovsk direction stated that the enemy is using small columns of armored vehicles and tanks to deploy infantry but noted that the open terrain in the area of responsibility of the Ukrainian brigade allows for such movement, unlike other sections of the Pokrovsk direction.

On January 27, Trehubov stated that Ukrainian defenders retreated from the southern part of Velyka Novosilka to avoid encirclement.
Trehubov also mentioned that the Russians occupied a significant part of the settlement, but Ukrainian warriors hold positions in Velyka Novosilka closer to the outskirts.
A Russian war correspondent claimed that Putin's troops allegedly captured all of Velyka Novosilka but have not yet completed the cleanup in the settlement.
Southern Axis
Neither Ukrainian nor Russian sources reported fighting in the Polohiv direction of Zaporizhzhia region on January 27.
