82nd Anniversary of the Koryukivka Tragedy
The village of Koryukivka in Chernihiv Oblast was the largest settlement in Europe that was completely destroyed by the Nazis during World War II in a punitive operation. For two days, March 1 and 2, 1943, a bloody massacre was carried out against the civilian population of Koryukivka. By the end of the second day, the village was almost entirely burned down. On March 9, the Nazis returned to the town to finish off and burn anyone who had hidden or fled into the forest. The Nazis completely annihilated the settlement: they killed and burned 6,700 people and set fire to 1,290 houses, with only 10 brick houses remaining. The Koryukivka tragedy's death toll is nearly 45 times greater than that of Belarusian Khatyn, 41 times that of Czech Lidice, and 12 times that of French Oradour-sur-Glane.

Church Holiday:
On March 1, the church calendar commemorates Saint Eudocia of Iliopolis. Eudocia, also known as Saint Eudocia, was an early Christian saint, martyr, and ascetic. Her life story dates back to the early Christian period and is transmitted through Christian legends and sacred texts.
According to legend, Eudocia lived in Iliopolis, an ancient city in modern-day Turkey. Born into a Roman family, she chose to dedicate her life to Christianity. She lived apart from the world, leading an ascetic lifestyle, devoted to prayer and distancing herself from material possessions.
In the early Christian world, devotion to Christianity led to persecution, and Eudocia was not spared this fate. Legend has it that she was arrested for her faith and commitment to Christianity. Although they tried to sway her from her beliefs through torture, she remained steadfast and true to her convictions.
According to legend, Eudocia was tortured and imprisoned, where she continued to pray and set an example for other prisoners, demonstrating remarkable willpower and faith. She died a martyr's death due to torture.
