DAY 1069 RUSSIAN AGGRESSION

January 27 - International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Community Managers Appreciation Day, International Port Wine Day, World Breast Pumping Day.

The Orthodox Church celebrates the transfer of the relics of Saint John Chrysostom.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On this day in 1945, Soviet troops liberated the largest Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz. January 27 was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005 to honor the memory of the millions of people who perished during the Holocaust.

This term encompasses the oppression, persecution, and deliberate extermination of the Jewish nation by the Nazis. The genocide occurred from 1933 to 1945, during which approximately 5 million Jewish individuals were killed. On November 1, 2005, a resolution dedicated to the Holocaust was adopted during the UN General Assembly. It addresses the genocide that resulted in the extermination of 30% of Jews and individuals of other nationalities. This resolution also established the date for the day of remembrance.

Community Managers Appreciation Day

Community Managers Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Monday of January.

This day is meant to honor the efforts of individuals who maintain activity and engagement in communities—online forums, groups, chats, and professional networks. They are also referred to as admins.

International Port Wine Day

This beverage has many fans worldwide, but its birthplace is considered to be the Portuguese city of Porto. From there, the wine began to be shipped to England in the late 17th century. There is a theory about the origin of port wine, suggesting that some producers started adding alcohol to the wine during fermentation. This process helped the drink retain its sweet flavor while gaining strength.

World Breast Pumping Day

Founded by Wendy Armbruster, owner of Snugabell, in 2017.

The main goal of this day is to motivate women to breastfeed. Pediatricians also advocate for feeding infants with breast milk, as it helps strengthen the baby's immune system and creates a unique bond between the mother and child. To avoid giving up on their careers, women can use breast pumps, which assist in creating a milk bank at home.

Church Holiday:

Feast of the Transfer of the Relics of John Chrysostom

January 27 - the transfer of the relics of John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople, one of the three Ecumenical Saints and Teachers.

John lived in the 4th century. He was born in Antioch and raised by his mother alone. The boy learned to read and write early, took lessons from the best philosophers and rhetoricians, and was baptized at the age of 20. Three years later, he became a reader in the church, and after his mother's death, he took monastic vows.

John renounced the archbishopric and lived in the desert for 4 years, where he wrote works that later became famous. He then settled in a secluded cave and lived there for two years in complete silence, but due to poor health, he was forced to return to Antioch, where he first became a deacon, then a presbyter, and later the Archbishop of Constantinople.

During his leadership, the clergy experienced a period of flourishing, and John himself became a role model. He funded several hospitals and two inns for pilgrims. He also composed the rite of the liturgy.

John faced persecution multiple times and was exiled. It was in exile that John Chrysostom passed away - in the settlement of Comana (near Sukhum). Thirty-one years after his death, Emperor Theodosius II ordered the transfer of the saint's relics to Constantinople, where it was found that they were incorrupt.

John was nicknamed "Chrysostom" for his exceptional talent as a preacher. He is revered alongside Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian, and together they are considered Ecumenical Saints and Teachers.
