The Orthodox Church commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint Ignatius the Godbearer.

Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of Kruty

This day is observed annually on the anniversary of the battle near the village of Kruty in 1918, where a fight took place between the Bolshevik army and a group of Kyiv students and free Cossack fighters. In Ukraine, this date has been officially recognized since the signing of the Presidential Decree "On Honoring the Memory of the Heroes of Kruty" No. 15/2007 on January 15, 2007.

The battle between the Ukrainian People's Army and the Red Guard, which occurred near the Kruty railway station, located 130 kilometers northeast of Kyiv and 18 kilometers east of Nizhyn, was successful for the defenders of Ukrainian statehood. The command's orders were fulfilled, we halted the enemy's rapid advance, and while conducting an organized retreat, we destroyed the paths and bridges behind us.

The enemy lost combat capability for four days. They had to bring in new forces, repair the blown-up and destroyed bridges and railway tracks, and only after that could they continue their advance on Kyiv, but by then not via railway, but on requisitioned peasant carts pulled by horses along a muddy road. This delay allowed the Ukrainian delegation to conclude the Brest Peace, which saved the young Ukrainian statehood.

International Day of Mobilization of Efforts Against the Threat of Nuclear War

Observed since 1985, when the "Delhi Declaration" (Declaration on Principles of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free and Nonviolent World) was signed.

The main goal of this event is to implement preventive measures aimed at averting the threat of nuclear war. On this day, calls are made for the cessation of nuclear armament.

Day of the Invention of the Gasoline Car

On January 29, 1886, the world's first gasoline car was created. This date is celebrated as the Day of the Invention of the Gasoline Automobile. On this day, Karl Benz from Germany received a patent for his invention.

Chinese New Year

In 2025, the Chinese New Year will be celebrated on January 29 and will last until February 16, 2026.

Church Holiday:

Saint Ignatius the Godbearer was thrown to the beasts in Rome by order of Emperor Trajan in 107 AD. After his death, Christians collected the saint's bones and kept them in Rome for a long time. In 108 AD, the relics were transferred to a suburb of Antioch. The last transfer occurred in 438 AD, when the relics were moved to Antioch itself.

When the city was captured by the Persians, the relics were returned to Rome and placed in a temple built in honor of the saint by Pope Clement (540 AD).

Saint Ignatius the Godbearer lived an ascetic life. He is credited with creating antiphonal singing, where the choir sings alternately during worship. He also left behind seven archpastoral letters that instructed on love for God, faith, and good deeds.
