Church Holiday:

The Eve of the Baptism of the Lord, or Epiphany, also known as the Baptismal Holy Evening. It marks the end of the Christmas season and prepares for the great event - the twelfth (one of the most important) holiday of the Baptism of the Lord.

Although the Holy Evening is called a holiday, it is not a day for festivities. A significant service is held in churches, similar to the services during Christmas Eve and Great Saturday. After the liturgy, a great blessing of water takes place in the churches. This solemn ritual is linked to the Gospel event that became the archetype of the sacramental washing away of sins and the actual sanctification of all water in the world after Jesus Christ was immersed in it. Since the 11th-12th centuries, the blessing of water occurs twice - on the eve of the Baptism and the Feast of the Epiphany. The blessing is performed in the same manner, so the water blessed on these days is indistinguishable.
