On this day, believers remember and pray for Saint Emiliana, the Bishop of Kyzik. There is little information about the life of Saint Emiliana; he lived in the 9th century during the reign of Leo the Armenian and was a bishop. The emperor opposed the veneration of icons, which brought Emiliana into conflict with him.
Emiliana was imprisoned and stripped of his rank, but he did not renounce the teachings of the saints and died in captivity.
Commemoration of Saint Gregory of Pechersk
The commemoration of Saint Gregory of Pechersk, who lived in the 11th century.
Saint Gregory took monastic vows on May 3, 1074, at the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery. He was well-read, humble, and possessed the miraculous gift of prayer. Through his words, he could cast out demons and guide wrongdoers. After conversing with Gregory, individuals would reflect on their actions, repent, and begin a new honest life.
Gregory of Pechersk is known for his prophecies. He predicted the defeat of Prince Rostislav's military campaign and the demise of the Kyiv ruler. Gregory warned the soldiers when he met them on the Dnieper, but they only mocked him. The Prince of Pereyaslav was so enraged that he ordered Gregory to be tied up and drowned. However, his prophecy came true - this campaign brought disaster to the army and Rostislav, who drowned while fleeing from the Polovtsians.
Saint Gregory of Pechersk was buried in the Antoniev Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. His relics remain there to this day.
