U.S. President Donald Trump genuinely wants to end the war, but he himself is not aware of all the details, believes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"He (Trump - IF-U) does not provide warnings - he simply states that he really wants to end the war. So far, we do not know how this will happen because we are unaware of the specifics. And I think President Trump himself does not know all the details. Because a lot of it, I would say, largely depends on what kind of fair peace we can achieve. And whether Putin, in principle, wants to end the war. In my opinion, he does not," Zelensky said in an interview with Italian journalist Cecilia Salvi, who was freed from Iranian captivity on January 8.
The president believes that Trump understands all these challenges. "And he simply says that we need to finish it because things will get worse. And he refers to 'worse' with a message directed towards Russia," the president added.
He also noted that Trump could expedite the end of the war through strength, sanctions, and the resilience of the United States' economy.
"At the very least, he can do it faster than anyone else in the world today. In my opinion, in terms of military power, economy, America's influence on the global economy, and his personal characteristics, I believe he can impact this more quickly than others," Zelensky stated.
Additionally, Zelensky mentioned that the guarantee of security for Ukraine "should be Europe plus the United States of America."
