The High Representative of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, is hopeful for the adoption of the 16th package of sanctions against Russia and will propose a new defense initiative for Ukraine.
Upon arriving in Brussels on Monday for the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, she stated: "Today is a special day. Firstly, it is Estonia's Independence Day, a time when we celebrate our freedom and independence. However, for the past three years, our Independence Day, a joyous occasion, has been forever linked to the most horrific day, which marks the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Therefore, I am also here in Brussels discussing with foreign ministers what more we can do. We need to support Ukraine now more than ever. We are discussing and, I hope, we will be able to adopt the 16th package of sanctions."
She also confirmed that she will present a new defense initiative to support Ukraine "with munitions in the short term, providing what they need." "Thus, I also expect this political discussion to progress," Kallas expressed her hopes.
