The Ministry of Defense (MoD) did not approve the unanimous decision made on January 21 by the Supervisory Board of the Defense Procurement Agency (DPA) to extend the contract of the current DPA director, Marina Bezrukova, for one year, as reported by Tatiana Nikolaenko, a member of the Public Anti-Corruption Council under the MoD.
"On Tuesday, the Supervisory Board, after reviewing the documents provided by the MoD, decided to extend the contract. Today, we received a disagreement from the MoD," she wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
The Supervisory Board of the DPA confirmed this information to Interfax-Ukraine.
Nikolaenko noted that there has been a struggle over the statutes of the DPA and the State Logistics Operator (SLO) for a month now. According to her, the decision of the Supervisory Board to extend Bezrukova’s powers was preceded by several meetings with ministry representatives, during the last of which the MoD conveyed its warnings.
In the view of the Public Anti-Corruption Council member, the Supervisory Board acted within its exclusive competence when extending the powers of the DPA head, while the MoD's disagreement with this decision exceeds the legal authority of the ministry and violates the law.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, the Supervisory Board will insist on the legality of its decision and its practical implementation.
As reported, the volume of procurement through the DPA amounts to about 400 billion UAH.
