Four Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed by Russian occupiers in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region, as reported on the Telegram channel of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine on Sunday.

"On December 22, 2024, information about the incident in the Volnovakha district was published on the Telegram channel. During an artillery shelling, four Ukrainian defenders were forced to take shelter in a private house. After being surrounded by Russian soldiers, they exited the building and were taken captive. Two of the prisoners were left lying on the ground, while the other two were taken out to the road. Subsequently, all four Ukrainian soldiers were cynically shot by the occupiers, in gross violation of the Geneva Conventions," the statement reads.

Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the commission of a war crime resulting in loss of life (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Investigative actions are underway to establish the circumstances of the crime.
