The suspect in the multiple murder and injury case, Ako Martinovic, attempted suicide a few hours after the shooting in the city of Cetinje. He died during transport to the hospital, reported Montenegro's Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Saranovic, writes the Balkan Service of Radio Free Europe.
According to Saranovic, at least ten people, including two children, were killed on Wednesday afternoon, January 1, in Cetinje, while four others were injured. Meanwhile, acting director of the police department, Lazar Šćepanović, stated that the death toll is likely to be twelve.
"Do not take this information as 100 percent confirmed until an autopsy is conducted," said Šćepanović.
It was also mentioned that the motive for the murders is unknown, as the victims were close friends and godfathers of Martinovic.
Reports indicate that Martinovic killed four people in a bar in the city center, and the others at least in three different locations. The police deployed special forces to search for the attacker in Cetinje. All roads in and out of the city were blocked, and police filled the streets.
Montenegro's Prime Minister Milojko Spajić visited the hospital where the injured were being treated and announced three days of mourning.
