The suspect in the murder of at least 10 people in Montenegro shot himself and died from his wounds.

The suspect in the multiple murder and wounding, Ako Martinovic, attempted suicide just hours after the shooting in the city of Cetinje. He died during transport to the hospital, according to Montenegro's Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic, as reported by the Balkan Service of Radio Free Europe. Saranovic stated that at least ten people, including two children, were killed on Wednesday afternoon, January 1, in Cetinje, with four others injured. Meanwhile, Lazar Stepanovic, the acting director of the police department, indicated that the death toll could be as high as twelve. "Do not consider this information as 100% confirmed until an autopsy has been conducted," Stepanovic cautioned. The motive behind the killings remains unclear, as the victims were close friends and godfathers of Martinovic. Reports indicate that Martinovic shot four individuals in a bar in the city center and attacked others in at least three different locations. Police dispatched special forces to locate the assailant in Cetinje, closing all roads leading in and out of the city while law enforcement flooded the streets. Montenegro's Prime Minister Milojko Spajic visited the hospital where the injured were being treated and declared a three-day period of mourning.
