Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson (Republican Party) on his reelection and noted that the lower chamber of the American parliament could play a crucial role in establishing lasting peace in Ukraine.
"The upcoming decisions of the House of Representatives can play a decisive role in achieving real and enduring peace. The Ukrainian people are deeply grateful to Congress and the American people it represents for their ongoing support. I wish Speaker Johnson success in his very important work. May the Lord support you in your service," Zelensky wrote on social media platform X on Friday evening.
He also congratulated the 119th U.S. Congress on the commencement of its first legislative session.
"Bipartisan support from the U.S. Congress has allowed Ukraine to save thousands of lives and prevent many cities from falling into the hands of Russian occupiers. Together with all freedom-loving friends in Congress, we have demonstrated that the courage of the Ukrainian people, combined with American leadership, can effectively deter Russian aggression. For global stability, it is crucial that Congress remains steadfast, and that both parties, along with all members who truly value freedom, stand united in defending human and democratic values," Zelensky added.
