The U.S. Senate has confirmed Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense, reports the Washington Post on Friday evening.
"The Senate voted to confirm Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense after Vice President JD Vance cast the decisive vote. Hegseth's appointment faced obstacles due to allegations of misconduct. His confirmation represents a significant political shift in the national security policy of the United States," the publication states.
Peter Brian Hegseth is an American television host, author, and officer in the National Guard. Hegseth has been a vocal critic of America's NATO allies and has expressed opposition to U.S. military aid to Ukraine. Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Hegseth as Secretary of Defense in November 2024.
