Romanian rescuers have found three lost Ukrainians in the Romanian mountains due to deteriorating weather conditions, reports the Romanian news portal Digi24.
"The rescuers expanded the search area and hoped to also deploy a helicopter for aerial observation, but the weather conditions were not ideal. Therefore, the search was conducted using ground methods, and fortunately, we guessed correctly regarding the area they might be in," quoted the portal, citing Sabin Cornoiu, the head of the mountain rescue service.
According to Cornoiu, the travelers were found in a very dangerous gorge.
One of them sustained multiple injuries from a fall, while the other two are experiencing mild hypothermia. All three Ukrainians were hospitalized.
As noted by the head of the rescue service, the authorities "will continue legal steps to ensure that these citizens have the right to remain in Romania."
It was reported that on the night of December 25, Romanian rescuers received a call about three Ukrainians who were lost in the Maramureș mountains. The mountain rescue service arrived at the coordinates provided by the Ukrainians, but they were not found there.
After 12 hours, the search for the Ukrainians was decided to be halted in Romania. It was noted that they did not heed the instructions and left the location where they were supposed to wait for help.
However, later, according to the head of the mountain rescue service, the three Ukrainians who had been searched for since the previous day were found alive.
