A new national holiday has been established in Ukraine, according to the official decree.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree establishing a new national holiday—Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity—set to be celebrated on May 21.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree establishing a new national holiday - the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity, which will be celebrated on May 21.

The relevant decree No. 883/2024, issued on December 27, has been published on the official website of the head of state.

According to the text of the document, the Day of Interethnic Harmony, to be celebrated annually on May 21, is introduced to strengthen the unity and concord of the Ukrainian people and to affirm Ukrainian national and civic identity.

"It also aims to promote the free development of cultural diversity among indigenous peoples and national minorities (communities) and to acknowledge their contributions to the defense of Ukraine's state sovereignty and independence, as well as their armed struggle against the aggressor state," the text states.

The decree takes effect on the day of its publication.
