The law enforcement agencies and security services of Washington and its surrounding areas are calling in reinforcements in preparation for three high-profile events in the American capital, following the New Year's terror attack in New Orleans and the car explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, according to Voice of America.
"This has never happened before. We have three special national security events within a 15-day period. But I can tell you that we are flexible. We are capable of adapting. We have been working on these events, in some cases, for years. So we will be ready," said Matt McCool, a special agent of the U.S. Secret Service in Washington.
It is noted that the first event will take place on Monday when Congress convenes to certify the results of the presidential election, which occurred four years after the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
The second event will be the state funeral of the late President Jimmy Carter, which will begin with a ceremony and procession on Tuesday and conclude on Thursday.
The final high-profile event will occur on January 20, when the inauguration of the newly elected President Donald Trump takes place.
