A decree has been prepared to appoint a presidential representative for the protection of the rights of military personnel and the families of soldiers, and the document will be published tomorrow, announced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"There was a request from our military – and it is an objective necessity – for the establishment of a special institution of a military ombudsman. We need a person who can defend the rights of our soldiers, and such a systematic capability so that the ombudsman, together with the Ministry of Defense and all others involved, can truly influence the situation and effectively assist soldiers and their families. We discussed the creation of such an institution with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, military command, and representatives of civil society – there were many perspectives. And now the first decision has been prepared – a decree on appointing the President of Ukraine’s representative for the protection of the rights of military personnel and the families of our soldiers," Zelensky stated in a video address on Sunday evening.
