The main Christmas tree of the country will be unveiled at Sofia Square on December 6, coinciding with St. Nicholas Day. The event organizers assure that the decorations on the tree are filled with symbols that provide strength and harmony during challenging times.
Голубые шары, гирлянды и "эконом-режим": чем порадует главная елка Украины в 2025 году?

On December 3rd, the main Christmas tree of Ukraine began to be installed in Sofia Square, Kyiv. Workers have already erected the stand and are attaching artificial branches to it, aiming to complete the setup by St. Nicholas Day on December 6th.

The New Year tree features white branches adorned with blue ornaments and garlands, topped with a Christmas star. The white color of the tree symbolizes a fresh start, while the blue ornaments represent the clear sky.

Several contracting companies are responsible for the tree's installation: one delivered the tree in disassembled form, another is assembling it, while a third is in charge of decoration and the photo zone. There is no formal opening ceremony for the main tree of the country; lights will simply be turned on.

Массовые мероприятия на Софийской площади возле елки не предусмотрены

This year's main Christmas tree of Ukraine will stand 15 meters tall and will be designed in a minimalist style using artificial substitutes for real trees. The Kyiv City State Administration assures that it will harmoniously complement the architectural ensemble of St. Sophia Cathedral.

According to the deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration, Anna Starostenko, this year's celebration format will serve as a symbolic message: even in the toughest times, there remains a place for hope and faith in the hearts of Ukrainians. The Christmas holidays inspire both children and adults, helping them regain strength and emotional balance during difficult times.

"The city is forgoing illuminations. Only three locations have been designated for lighting: St. Sophia Cathedral, St. Michael's Cathedral, and the monument to Vladimir the Great," emphasizes Starostenko.

The installation of the country's main Christmas tree will not require any budget funds, as all expenses are covered by sponsors.

"This is a completely free initiative for the city, and the saved funds will go to the defenders of Ukraine," explains the deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration.

Safety during the celebrations in Sofia Square will be ensured by patrols from municipal security, the Kyiv patrol police, and rescue teams. Special loudspeakers will inform residents of the need to seek shelter in case of an air raid alert.

It is worth noting that a Christmas tree fair has already started in various regions of Ukraine. The average price for 1 meter of tree is 135 hryvnias. The largest number of trees has been prepared by foresters from the Khmelnytsky region, where 13,000 trees and pines are available for sale.
