DAY 1063 RUSSIAN AGGRESSION - ДЕНЬ 1063 РОССИЙСКАЯ АГРЕССИЯ

January 21 is celebrated as International Hug Day, Granola Bar Day, and National "Pet Your Dog" Day.

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the mass event - the symbolic chain of reunification "Ukrainian Wave" from Kyiv to Lviv, one of the largest in Central and Eastern Europe (around three million Ukrainians joined hands, connecting Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Kyiv on the eve of Zluka) and the 30th anniversary of the unveiling of the monument to V. Stefanyk in Ivano-Frankivsk (1995) on the grounds of Prykarpatsky University.

The Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of Saint Confessor Maximus and Saint Martyr Neophyte.

International Hug Day

Traditionally, on this day, people can hug even strangers in a friendly manner. The holiday originated on January 21, 1986, in Caro (Michigan), USA, among the student community of Western European youth, but the exact circumstances of its emergence are unknown. On this day, boys and girls embraced each other without any intimate implications. It is commonly believed that during friendly hugs, individuals exchange warmth. There are also scientific justifications for the benefits of hugging: friendly touches boost immunity, stimulate the central nervous system, increase hemoglobin levels in the blood, and raise the levels of another hormone - oxytocin, which fosters goodwill towards others.

Granola Bar Day

Granola Bar Day or Muesli Bar Day is celebrated on January 21. It is a day to appreciate this convenient and nutritious snack that has become a staple in many diets.

Granola, the precursor to muesli, was invented in 1863 by Dr. James Caleb Jackson. Initially called "granula," it was made from coarsely ground flour combined with fruits and vegetables. Later, John Harvey Kellogg made granola more appealing to patients. The transformation of loose muesli into a compact bar form is attributed to Stanley Mason.

National "Pet Your Dog" Day

This is a heartwarming day dedicated to showing special love and affection for our furry friends - dogs.

International Sweatpants Day

Every year on January 21, the world celebrates International Sweatpants Day. It was first observed in 2009.

We owe the appearance of such a convenient wardrobe item to the French company Le Coq Sportif. They were the first to produce special clothing for athletes starting in 1882. Sweatpants were developed later in the 1920s, initially created for the comfort of athletes. They were ordinary knitted pants made of gray jersey, easily stretchable and non-restrictive.

Church Holiday:

Saint Maximus the Confessor lived in the 7th century and served as an advisor to Emperor Heraclius. At the same time, the Monophysite heresy emerged, claiming that Jesus Christ had only one will, not two. Maximus then left his position and became a monk. He dedicated most of his time to fighting heretics. He even traveled to Rome to persuade Pope Martin not to accept the new doctrine. However, the emperors deemed this audacity and exiled both the saint and the pope to Chersonesus, where Maximus died.
