DAY 1072 RUSSIAN AGGRESSION - ДЕНЬ 1072 РОССИЙСКАЯ АГРЕССИЯ

January 30 is celebrated as NASA Day of Remembrance.

In Ukraine, it is the Day of the Specialist in Military-Social Management of the Armed Forces.

The Orthodox Church commemorates the Assembly of the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, John Chrysostom, and Gregory the Theologian.

Day of the Specialist in Military-Social Management of the Armed Forces

The specialist in military-social management of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is a relatively new profession, yet it has its own history. The need to establish an army arose right after Ukraine declared its independence. This led to the formation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). However, this development took place against a backdrop of complex political and social conditions. Therefore, there was a necessity to create a special service responsible for the psychological and social aspects.

NASA Day of Remembrance

This day honors the heroes of space exploration. NASA Day of Remembrance is an annual event held on the last Thursday of January to commemorate the astronauts who lost their lives during space missions.

School Day of Non-Violence and Peace

On January 30, the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is observed. Its celebration was proposed in 1964 by Spanish poet Lorenzo Vidal. Throughout his conscious life, this talented individual advocated for pacifist ideas and opposed violence in any form.

The date was chosen in honor of Mahatma Gandhi, who exemplified the philosophy of non-violence. He had the opportunity to live in luxury but, after receiving a higher education in London, dedicated his life to combating caste inequality and achieving India's independence through peaceful means. Unfortunately, ironically, on January 30, 1948, he met a violent death at the hands of religious fanatics.

Church Holiday:

This feast day, dedicated to the memory of the great Cappadocians Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and the Patriarch of Constantinople John Chrysostom, is a time to honor these universal teachers who formally completed the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

The history of the establishment of this feast dates back to the reign of Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, when disputes arose in Constantinople regarding the primacy of any of these Church Fathers. Each of the great saints was considered the best by their followers, leading to church disputes among Christians: some called themselves Basilian, others Gregorian, and others Johannites.

According to church tradition, in 1084, the Metropolitan of Euchaïta, John, was visited by the three saints who commanded him to establish a common day for celebrating their memory, declaring that they are equal before God.

From the first half of the 12th century, the service to the three saints began appearing in Greek liturgical books. The earliest example is the Rule of the Pantokrator Monastery in Constantinople (1136), which includes the rules for consecrating a church on the feast of Saints Basil, Gregory, and Chrysostom.

The saints Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom are known as great theologians and Church Fathers. Each saint serves as an example of life in Christ, a model for all believers. Their sayings have become foundational for many.

All three saints were exceptionally well-educated. Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian, having mastered all knowledge available in their native cities, completed their education in Athens, the center of classical learning. Here, the holy friends knew two paths: one led to the house of God, and the other to the school. This friendship lasted a lifetime. John Chrysostom studied under the best rhetor of the era, Libanius; he learned theology from Diodorus, later the famous Bishop of Tarsus, and from Bishop Meletius. The words from the life of St. Basil apply to all three: he studied every science to such perfection as though he had not studied anything else.

Name Days: Basil, Vladimir, Gregory, Ivan, Maxim.
