U.S. President Joseph Biden has tasked the Pentagon with increasing arms supplies to Ukraine in response to the "outrageous" mass attack by Russia on Christmas, reports the White House website.

"I have directed the Department of Defense to continue ramping up arms supplies to Ukraine, and the United States will tirelessly work to strengthen Ukraine's position in its defense against Russian forces," Biden stated.

He noted that in recent months, the U.S. has delivered hundreds of air defense missiles to Ukraine, with even more on the way.

"Early on Christmas morning, Russia launched waves of missiles and drones at Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The aim of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people's access to heat and electricity during the winter and jeopardize the safety of the power grid," the message stated.

Biden emphasized that "the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and security, which is why the U.S. and the international community must continue to support Ukraine until victory over Russia."
