British authorities have no plans to ban TikTok.

The British government announced on Saturday that London has no plans to ban the social media platform TikTok.

London has no plans to ban the social network TikTok, the British government announced on Saturday.

"This issue is for the U.S.; we have no plans to impose a ban on TikTok in the UK," a spokesperson for Downing Street was quoted by the EFE agency.

This statement came amid discussions in the U.S. regarding a potential ban on the China-based social media platform. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump stated on Friday that he would make a decision about TikTok's future after assessing the situation.

"I will make a decision on TikTok in the near future, but first, I need to understand the situation," he wrote on the Truth Social platform. Trump noted that the Supreme Court's decision was expected and should be respected.

Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously supported federal legislation to ban the TikTok app. Meanwhile, the White House stated that it would pass the final decision on the ban to the next administration. The bill stipulated that the Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, must divest itself of the app; otherwise, the platform was set to be banned in the U.S.

Western media noted at the time that the approval of the bill would allow the U.S. president to ban other apps controlled by "foreign adversaries." TikTok has gained immense popularity in recent years. According to U.S. authorities, the Chinese government may use the app to collect personal data from Americans. TikTok has approximately 170 million users in the U.S.
