G7 foreign ministers affirmed the need for robust security guarantees to prevent a recurrence of war in Ukraine, according to their official statement.

The foreign ministers of the G7 countries—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the High Representative of the European Union—discussed Russia's devastating war in Ukraine. They emphasized their commitment to the pursuit of lasting peace and the need to establish robust security guarantees.

The foreign ministers of the G7 countries - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the High Representative of the European Union, discussed Russia's devastating war in Ukraine, emphasizing their commitment to the idea of lasting peace and the necessity for reliable security guarantees.

"G7 members discussed Russia's destructive war in Ukraine. They highlighted their commitment to working together to achieve a stable peace and to build a strong and prosperous Ukraine, and they reaffirmed the need for developing reliable security guarantees that would make a recurrence of war impossible," - states in the joint statement of the G7 foreign ministers following the Munich Security Conference.

The statement addressed the conditions for new, additional sanctions against Russia: "Any new, additional sanctions after February must be linked to whether the Russian Federation will make genuine, good faith efforts to end the war against Ukraine, ensuring long-term security and stability for Ukraine as a sovereign, independent state."

G7 members reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

G7 members discussed the provision of dual-use assistance to Russia from China and military aid from North Korea and Iran. They condemned any such support.

G7 members expressed serious concern over North Korea's nuclear program and ballistic missile program, reaffirming their commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

They demanded that North Korea abandon all its nuclear weapons, existing nuclear programs, and any other weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile programs.

"They emphasized that direct support from North Korea for Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine represents a dangerous escalation of the conflict, which will have serious consequences for European and Indo-Pacific security. They called on North Korea to immediately cease any assistance in Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, including withdrawing its troops. They urged North Korea to promptly address the issue of abductions," the statement reads.

The G7 foreign ministers will meet next in Canada from March 12-14.
