The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the approval of the resolution "The Impact of Unstable Energy Infrastructure on the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants" at the extraordinary meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, stated the Ministry.
"We believe that the approval of the resolution reflects a strong position of the international community regarding the necessity to halt Russian attacks on the electrical substations that support the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants," the message states.
The Ministry emphasized that Russia must cease strikes on Ukraine's nuclear energy system, which pose threats of a nuclear incident and endanger not only Ukraine but also all of Europe and the world.
"Only an increase in all forms of pressure on the aggressor state can compel Moscow to a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable peace, respecting international law and the UN Charter," the statement reads.
It is also reported that the resolution notes the inadmissibility of attacks on electrical substations that provide external energy supply to Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Such attacks are recognized by the IAEA Board of Governors as a direct threat to nuclear safety.
The Ministry also urges the IAEA to continue assessing the risks and extent of damage to Ukraine's energy infrastructure, including electrical substations that support the operation of nuclear power plants, as well as encouraging the Board of Governors to provide further political, financial, and technical support to IAEA member states to strengthen technical assistance to Ukraine.
As reported, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a Ukrainian resolution on the inadmissibility of Russian attacks on critical infrastructure essential for the operation of nuclear power plants during an extraordinary meeting initiated by Ukraine on Thursday.
