The Minister of Defense of South Korea, Kim Yong-hyun, stated that sending a South Korean group of observers or an analytical team to Ukraine is an “obvious” task for the South Korean military.
“Therefore, I believe it is an obvious task for our military to send observers and an analytical team to Ukraine,” he said at a press conference with the head of the Pentagon on Wednesday.
Kim Yong-hyun also mentioned that if the group is not sent to Ukraine, it would mean “failure to fulfill official duties.”
“The role of observers or analytical groups in war is to analyze the trends of modern warfare or various aspects of contemporary conflict. Especially in the case of the war in Ukraine, since we have confirmed that the North Korean armed forces are participating in the war… This could be a good opportunity for our analytical group or observers to learn about the trends of North Korean troops,” the minister explained.
He emphasized that there have been many instances when South Korea sent monitoring groups to countries engaged in warfare.
