The firefighting efforts at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant have been suspended; there are no open smoldering spots observed, and no deterioration in the radiation situation at the site has been recorded, as reported by the State Agency of Ukraine for Managing the Exclusion Zone.
"As of 07:00, the firefighting operations have been halted, but this does not mean they are completed. No open smoldering spots of the membrane have been detected, and monitoring of the situation continues using UAVs equipped with thermal imaging," the statement on Facebook reads.
It is noted that 6 personnel and 2 units of equipment from the State Emergency Service (SES) are involved. The air temperature is -15°C.
"No deterioration in the radiation situation at the NPP-OU production site and the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone as a whole has been recorded. No release of radioactive products beyond established limits has been detected," the message states.
As reported, during the night of February 14, a Russian strike drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter of the fourth reactor block of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in a fire that has since been extinguished, but significant damage occurred.
