The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has extended the detention without the right to bail for soldier Sergei Gnezdilov from the 56th Brigade, who publicly left his unit without permission, until January 15 inclusive. This was reported by Suspilne on the evening of Friday, November 29.
According to his lawyer, Anastasia Burkovska, the decision will be appealed.
As reported on November 19, the Kyiv Court of Appeals upheld the detention of soldier Sergei Gnezdilov, who is accused of desertion.
It was previously reported that the decision to impose a detention measure was made by the court on October 11.
On October 9, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations detained the soldier on suspicion of leaving the military unit without permission, with the intent to evade military service under martial law.
On October 10, Gnezdilov was informed of the charges against him. His actions have been classified as desertion (Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment of up to 12 years.
As reported, on September 21, Gnezdilov announced on his Facebook page that he had left his unit without permission to draw attention to the need for regulating service terms for those mobilized.
