The Czech President emphasized the need for a coalition supporting a fair peace in Ukraine, while the Slovak Prime Minister views peace through strength as unrealistic.

The coalition of supporters for a just peace in Ukraine needs to be established soon, asserts Czech President Petr Pavel.

The coalition of supporters for a just peace in Ukraine must be formed soon, asserts Czech President Petr Pavel.

"It is time to start considering a broad coalition of supporters for a just peace in Ukraine. A 'peace' dictated by the aggressor is termed capitulation and will only encourage all current and future aggressors. The free world must stand against evil," Pavel wrote on social media platform X on Saturday.

In contrast, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the Slovak Republic "will not support Ukraine financially or militarily to continue the war, but if others do, we will respect that." He also described the strategy of peace through strength as unrealistic and expressed the belief that "Ukraine will never be strong enough to negotiate from a position of military power."

"In the conclusions of the EU summit (Thursday, March 6, 2025), the Slovak Republic proposes, among other things, the need for an immediate ceasefire (regardless of when a final peace agreement is reached), which is rejected by President Zelensky and a significant part of EU member states... If there is no respect for the fact that there are other views besides simply continuing the war at the summit, the European Council may be unable to agree on conclusions regarding Ukraine on Thursday," wrote the head of the Slovak government.

At the same time, Fico noted that Slovakia respects the need to enhance Europe’s defense capabilities.
