The injured child has been handed over to emergency medical services, reports the Kyiv City State Administration on Wednesday evening.

"The 'Lybidska' metro station remains closed for entry. The child has been transferred to emergency medical personnel. Currently, metro specialists are replacing and adjusting some components of the escalator. These works are essential for ensuring their safe operation," the KCSA stated.

Earlier, the city hall announced that the station is closed for entry but is operational for passenger exit, with trains stopping on both tracks.

"On one of the escalators descending, a passenger's shoe got caught in the mechanism due to crossing the safety line. This caused the escalator to stop. Emergency medical services were called to the scene. Repair specialists for the escalators are also present," the administration reported.

The Kyiv Metro reported that due to the major renovation of escalator No. 1, there is no backup available to accommodate passenger transportation.

It was previously announced that the major renovation of escalators at the "Lybidska" metro station would begin on Tuesday, December 24, and is expected to last until the end of April 2025.
