U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing to dissolve the leadership of the United States Postal Service (USPS) and incorporate an independent postal agency into his administration, according to a report by The Washington Post citing informed sources.
According to their information, Trump is expected to issue an executive order this week to dismiss members of the postal service's governing board and transfer control of the agency to the U.S. Department of Commerce and its head, Howard Latnick.
The publication notes that this decision "could lead to chaos in the operations of a postal provider with a 250-year history."
Sources told the newspaper that the postal service's board plans to challenge Trump's order.
During an emergency meeting on Thursday, the board hired an outside advisor and instructed to file a lawsuit against the White House if the president dismisses board members or attempts to change the agency's independent status.
