The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has confirmed the detention of 107 individuals during the dispersal of a protest last night, reports the "News of Georgia" portal on Saturday morning, November 30.
"In total, around 150 protesters were detained in Tbilisi over two days, with an additional 10 detained in Batumi. Experience shows that this is not the final number: many may be detained or receive summonses in the days to come after the Ministry of Internal Affairs identifies individuals through photos and videos," the statement said.
The agency explained the use of force by stating that "the protest exceeded the limits of peaceful assembly and took on an unlawful character."
It was also reported that "as a result of violent actions by the protesters, 10 officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured." One of the officers remains in the hospital with burns of varying degrees.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not disclosed how many protesters were injured during the dispersal.
As reported by "Echo of the Caucasus," the situation near the building of the Parliament of Georgia, where a large anti-government rally took place on November 29, escalated, with clashes occurring at the entrances to the parliament. The police used special measures against the demonstrators, including water cannons. Prior to this, protesters and police threw bottles, stones, and other objects at each other.
On November 29, in Tbilisi, in front of the parliament, young people resumed their protest against the policies of the current authorities, claiming that they have canceled the foreign policy course towards Eurointegration.
