On Tuesday at 14:30 local time (15:30 Kyiv time), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will deliver a special address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, which officially commenced its activities on Monday, January 20.
According to the agenda, he will precede a speech by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and earlier that morning, following the opening remarks by WEF President Klaus Schwab, a special address is scheduled from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang.
While there are no other sessions directly related to Ukraine on that day, one of the sessions will discuss "Peace through Strength," the increase in defense spending in Western and Central Europe after many years of underinvestment to EUR 350 billion, which is more than at the end of the Cold War, as well as the future of the transatlantic alliance, rising threats on the continent, and European defense strategy. Among the speakers will be Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Christopher G. Cavoli, and leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
On Wednesday at 16:30 local time, a session will be held discussing the Peace Formula for Ukraine, featuring the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak and Jens Stoltenberg, former NATO Secretary General from 2014 to 2024, along with a media briefing at 12:00 on ensuring the future security of Ukraine's energy sector with the participation of DTEK Energy Holding CEO Maksym Timchenko and Vestas President and CEO Henrik Andersen.
On Thursday morning at 10:00, a session titled "Ukraine: The Road Ahead" will take place, focusing on the war and the prospects for peace agreements and recovery. Participants will include the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Poland, Andriy Sibiga and Radosław Sikorski, the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, and President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.
This year, the main theme of the WEF in Davos is "Cooperation for the Intellectual Age," with discussion topics including geopolitical uncertainty, rethinking growth, the role of artificial intelligence, and protecting the planet during times of change.
Approximately 3,000 representatives from over 130 countries are expected to participate in the forum, including 60 heads of state and government and 900 leaders of major global companies and partner organizations of the forum.
During the forum from January 20 to 23, the "Ukrainian House" will operate with a discussion program organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund, and Horizon Capital.
In addition to organizing the traditional Ukrainian breakfast and co-organizing the Ukrainian House, the Pinchuk Foundation, in collaboration with the Office of the President of Ukraine, will also present a new project titled "Your Country Above All – Win with Us." "If Ukraine falls, you will soon be in danger – your economy, your well-being, and your ability to live as you wish will be at risk. While Ukraine's victory will deter aggressors worldwide, it showcases Ukraine's potential as a partner and demonstrates that people can choose their own future," the project's concept explains.
Participants of the Ukrainian breakfast early on January 23 will discuss a current perspective on the transformations reshaping the world order and Ukraine's crucial role at this pivotal moment. Among the speakers will be NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Presidents of Poland Andrzej Duda, Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, Finland Alexander Stubb, and Prime Ministers of Belgium Alexander De Croo and Croatia Andrej Plenković.
In 2024, POLITICO recognized the Ukrainian House in Davos with the exhibition "Deciding Your Tomorrow," organized by the Pinchuk Foundation, as the best pavilion.
